  Batteries come in different types. Wet cell batteries, which contain acid or other fluid, are restricted or prohibited.

RESTRICTIONS

There are new regulations regarding devices such as laptop computers, cameras and cell phones which contain lithium batteries.

Battery-powered wheelchairs & other mobility devices
Please contact WestJet first, by phone at 1-800-538-5698 or e-mail us if you intend to bring a motorized wheelchair or mobility device onboard. Non-powered wheelchairs can be included in checked baggage without restriction.

Wheelchair Restrictions

  • Dry cell battery powered
    • Checked baggage only
    • Battery will be disconnected
    • Battery terminals will be insulated
    • Battery must be attached securely to wheelchair
    • Please request approval of the WestJet Agent.
  • Wet cell battery powered
    • Battery must be removed and packed in a strong, rigid, leak-proof container impervious to battery fluid
    • Battery must be stored upright in container, surrounded by absorbent material of sufficient quantity to soak up total fluid contents.
    • Batteries should be fitted with spill-resistant vent caps.
    • Please request approval of the WestJet Agent.
