Chapter 1 Page 2

Airport Layout Terms

An airport is divided into two parts, Landside and Airside.

Landside
That area of the airport terminals outside the Customs and Immigration Check Points or Outside of any Security Access Point.

Airside
Any Customs controlled area such as departure and arrival halls or freight sorting or loading sheds adjacent to the ramp within a Customs controlled area.

The two parts are separated by an imaginary line drawn at the Immigration & Customs Control Point. This line is extended to the Customs office in the DHL Shed.

In reality you are in a Customs-controlled area in any loading area that is adjacent to the ramp.

Warning: The removal from a Customs-controlled area of any duty-free item from an international flight -- even unused crew meals -- is a serious offence and may well render the individual concerned liable to criminal proceedings.
